Hi all, I have been searching the forum for a number of hours now and dont seem to be able to find the most up-to-date information to help me decide if I can flash my 360's LiteOn DG-16D2S drive myself. It seems that people on here post info when its new, but dont (or can't?) remove it when its no longer relevant or has been superceeded by something else.

So here is my question...

What do I need to successfully flash my Xbox360's LiteOn DG-16D2S drive (FW: 74850C) myself? I realise that this is probably a frustrating noob question for a lot of you, and for that I appologise, but please help me out, we all have to start out somewhere!

If its not a relatively simple task then perhaps there is some reasonable priced modders locally that could do it for me? I am willing to pay, just dont want to be ripped-off! I am in Leeds UK, but would travel with my console or DVDRom to the surrounding areas if anyone is willing to help me out?

Regards,

Tegan1110

(*) My backups are LEGALLY MADE COPIES of games I already own, I have got 3 Sticky fingered children, each with their own Wii in their room, so the backups are made of the originals, and the originals stored in the loft incase of scratching, fingerprints or other miscellaneous damage. I own a RETAIL COPY of all backups that I make. I DO NOT CONDONE PIRACY!

If you plan on playing online you'll need to dump the entire firmware of the drive.

Here is a tutorial on how to dump the entire firmware. That tutorial shows the use of the Vampire, but the Probe 2 works. If you want to go the homemade route, you can solder a switch and a resistor to the drive.

There is an older way on how to dump the drive info of the 74850C but full firmware dumps are recommended though.

Hi, Thanks for the quick and comprehensive reply, to be honest I'm not bothered about playing online (well actually I would love to play online, I just can't afford the subscriptions!). Does that alter the process much at all? The only thing I might occasionally grab from the net is the odd bit of DLC, for example extra songs for lips and other similar snippets. This would however be a very rare occurrence! I dont really want to have to pay for tools that Im only going to use the once (eg vampire or probe 2) and soldering is out of the question (i dont have a steady enough hand!)

Sorry to make it even more difficult to answer, perhaps I should just find a local modding service and let them do it for me? Not that I have the first idea of where to look for that! All searches seem to turn up a blank!

If you decide to go the local modder route, make sure they are dumping the full firmware. I would recommend getting the full firmware dumped regardless if you do or don't plan on playing on Live. Because once you erase the stock firmware, it is gone forever.

Agreed. Plus the full dump keeps the laser calibration so your laser will last longer then the other method.

As a heads up...in the u.s. it costs about 30-45 dollars to mod your particular drive from a reputable modder...that's about 33 euros max, especially in a populated area like Leeds.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."
