Lite-On new drive/old PCB

Hi guys the laser on my drive is defective. I ordered another lite-on drive from China. My system is modded. Ok so I put the PCB chip onto the new drive, then soldered the 6 wires onto it. I made sure I put the wires in the exact order as they were on the old drive. The problem is, when I put the game in, I get 2 sounds as if it is reading a disk, then "Open Tray". It worked once by reading a legit game and thats it. I get the sound even if I don't put in a disk. What the hell is going on?

If the new drive read a backup once, then the PCB was installed correctly. It's like stuartbat said, the new drive is defective. It went defective sometime after the successful read.

you could also try doing a laser pot adjustment on it which "may" work

Ok so I took my system to a repair shop and the guy put in another modded drive and that worked. He told me my drive was defective and sold me his drive for $40. Now I contacted the vendor for a refund and he tells me I would have to flash the drive in order to work. He tells me, all drives are tested before they are shipped. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.
