I've searched afterdawn and google but I can seem to find a answer. Do all lite-ons require the spear to get the DVD key or it it just certain revisions?

They all require a spear for getting the key. You can buy one or make your own. You will need to buy some kind of connectivity kit as well if you don't already have one.

Darn it, I suspected as much. I did think that you didnt need the connectivity kit though as you could power the drive with the xbox like ive done with Hitachis, Benqs and sammys.

Can you confirm I defo need this please.

You don't "need" the connectivity kit, you can power the drive from the 360 just fine.

If you have a homemade spear/probe, then you won't need a connectivity kit.

If you have purchased the Maximus Spear or CK3 probe, you NEED the connectivity kit.
