lite on drive replacement help

I have a buddy that has a 9 series liteon and he needs a new laser. Can you swap out any of them or do you need the specific liteon to do that? Could you use a 7 or 8 series as a replacement and just switch out the pcb?

can you use a any other drive lasers? If i put the pcb of the liteon into a benq drive, would it show up as the liteon?

you cannot connect a liteon board to a benq drive it is wired different, if not for that it would not matter, past the pcb the rest is only mechanics.
