Ok, Someone gave me an xbox 360 Elite that wasn't working. I hooked it ap and sure enough "Open Tray" Error. So I purchased the tools to take it apart and got the drive out. I have read tutorials on Flashing drives and such, but I can't do that. "my computer doesnt have the right connections"

But I have also seen that you can do a chip-swap to make it work. But only if both drives are the same. Well here lies my question. Here are the Specs for the drive.

Model No: DG-16D2S
Manufactured Date: 2008
Hardware Version: A0A1
Firmware Verson: 74850C
MS Part Numer: X800474-008
PLDS PArt Number: 3B41216031

So my question would be, since this drive has such an old Firmware, do I have to match that exactly in order to do a chip-swap? Also, if I do have to match it exactly, hpw hard will it be to locate a newe drive that will work? If anyone knows where I could find one, I would appreciate a link if you could.

Thanks guys, I'm just starting to get into this stuff. I guess I need to get a PC with a Sata port.

Sorry guys, but the minute I left the threat I looked at ebay. The very first result was a drive that matched my number exactly. So I guess I will just ask how hard it is to do the chip-swap? Just open it up and swap the board right?

Another thing, when I opened this thing up it was crazy. There wasn't a single spec of dust inside of it. It looked like it had just been made yesterday. Maybe it was just defective and whoever had it before just had more money than brains. Thanks for any pointers you fine people can provide!

if you are thinking of swapping the boards of drives you can use any liteon. it doesnt matter what firmware is on the new drive as long as you are using the 1st drive's board on the new drive.

to swap the boards you will have to have a soldering iron, you do not swap any chips but the entire board from the drive, there are 4 plug in cables, and 10 wires that have to be un-soldered and re-soldered to the new board. once you take it apart you will see what has to be changed.
