Hi,

I have a liteon dg-16d2s drive in my xbox 360. The laser seems to be going bad. I keep getting dirty disc errors and most of the time the drive will not even read the game. Anyhow, I'm trying to find a replacement laser. After doing some research I found out that the benq VAD6038 laser would work with the liteon drive. I found this laser on eBay and wanted to make sure it would work correctly with my liteon drive? http://cgi.ebay.com/XBOX-360-HOP-141x-14...id=p4999.c0.m14

I also plan on following this tutorial to replace the laser, does this tutorial seem acceptable to you guys? http://www.ps3news.com/forums/xbox-360-n...ent-101977.html

Any advice in changing this laser is much appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, why did you post?! Totally not even necessary, and you didn't help. And you don't need to register to see the Tutorial, I'm looking at it right now!

Anyways scasper76, that tutorial looks like it will work fine, you just need to realized that that tutorial is for a BenQ drive, so things may be a little different, but not a whole lot.

But other then that, I think you will be fine installing the laser just fine.

Great, thanks for the response. Do you believe that the laser I posted in the eBay link would work with the liteon drive? Like I said I have done research and found a few sites stating that the benq laser would work, but I would just like to double check.

And again, are you that lazy to just click the link? People are here to help others, not bug people to help them help you cause you're lazy!

And scasper76, if you were reading in other threads that it will work, then I think you should be fine.

Alright guys. I just replaced my laser on my xbox 360. I bought the laser in the link of my first post and followed the guide at http://www.ps3news.com/forums/xbox-360-n...ent-101977.html - I am still having problems. Now when I insert a disc it says reading for just a few seconds and then says "Open Tray". It acts as if its not even attempting to read now. I took the case off the drive and watched while the xbox 360 was booting and the laser came and it moved maybe a half an inch or so. So it seems the laser functions. It also moves and lights up when I close the tray. Any ideas?! I removed the static solder blob, so I know that shouldn't be the issue.

@Wabashman I checked all the cables on the drive and they seemed fine, but I went ahead and disconnected and reconnected them just to be safe. Now, I have got the drive to read UFC 2009 once after multiple times of opening and closing the tray. The drive finally read it, but it does not read it every time. Also, I got it to read a DVD once and it played the DVD just fine. Although it does not read every time, just like with the game. These are original games and not backups. I tried a couple other games as well and still nothing. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Turn the POT on the left (if looking from the back of the laser) anti-clockwise a fraction (about 1/10 of a turn) and it should be ok, That happens me with BenQ drives sometimes but doing that suddenly makes them perfect, even though people say that's the cd POT it somehow makes the laser read properly.

my answer would have been to replace the entire drive, as the last time i messed with a laser i couldnt get it to work either, and reflashing a drive was a lot easier.

@steo2k8 I tried adjusting the POT. I adjusted the screw on the left, (when both screws/cable housing are in front of you). The factory reading was 4.8 and I adjusted it to 3.4. Still no luck. I was under the impression that the screw on the left was for DVD and not CD?

Oh sorry yeah the one on the right (mixed up the sides) just turn it a bit and it will recognise any disc you put in.
