Mandatory update for wave 6 game (Bad Company 2)

Just because I can't find anything easily during my research, I was just curious if the update that is required to play Bad Company 2 would inhibit someone who is, say, running ixtreme 1.6 from being able to play any of their current games that they have backed up previously that are wave 4 and older?

I am understand that this update is to dashboard, but didn't know if it affects anything having to do with the 1.6 mod.
