Hi, I've been reading a lot on this forum about modding my xbox but I have a few questions that haven't been answered and I've used the search bar to the best of my ability. I initially started searching for a softmod but couldn't find links any newer than 2008 so I was wondering if that still works. Also, would I be able to buy a flashed drive online then replace mine with the flashed one? My xbox is currently bare (no housing) because I put a fan right on top to prevent red rings (extended towel trick) so taking it apart isn't an issue, just all of the steps of probing and dumping firmware intimidate me so I would prefer to not flash it myself.

You can do this but I believe you would need the dvd key from the original dvd drive which would require probing with the lite on and hooking it up via sata for the benq.

If you are going to do that you may as well just buy the equipment and do it your self,if you get the x360 usb pro you don't even need to open up your computer as it works with usb. The only thing that you would definitely need would be the probe 3 which is like 15 bucks and then a power source ck3 lite is probably around $30.

Things you will need to flash the dvd drive:

liteon:
ck3 lite(don't power your drive with your xbox or you may be banned from live)
sata connection or usb pro
probe 3
Jungle Flasher
LT+ 1.9 firmware

for the BenQ, you need the same stuff except for the probe 3

I would def. recommend paying a little more money and doing it yourself since you will have to get it reflashed every dash update more than likely if you plan on using xbox live for your backups, and since you are fairly tech savvy, I would imagine it would be no problem for you. You can even flash friends drives for money or something to help pay for the equipment

Link for a tutorial for lite-on? Also; flashing my drive won't get me banned, correct? I saw you mentioned something about that.

try google, youtube, look for the jungle flasher tutorial it has every version on it, some people have links in their sigs on here, and there are tutorials on team xecuter site. Flashing your drive has a chance to be banned but if you are careful you can avoid it, don't power the drive with your xbox when flashing, always have most up to date firmware and software when making backups,

YouTube is typically crap but I'll try team xecuter or google.
