Moving flashed drive from rrod to new xbox

Hi, my flashed xbox has died (two re-flows and a reball) and I am still getting rrod.
I didn't do the flash myself, I had a local pro installer do it, so what I am wondering is, can I get a new 360 (maybe a cheap arcade) and simply swap the dvd drives, and keep playing my backups?
It's an older 360/drive I think it's zephyr/Samsung TS-H943A. Would I have to find an identical board/drive in order to just swap?
Or am I looking at having to reflash the drive in any case?
any help is greatly appreciated.

you will need to flash the drive still for the old drive to be recognised in the new xbox
