hey, well I found this guy on my local classifides and this guy is selling any video game or accessories for half the retail price. now according to him they are brand new games the only thing is they dont come in the original case nor do they have the cover or manual. He says the reason for this is the company that he orders from stamps the cover and the manual with the company name and he does not want the word to get out about this company because then he would get no buisness. The games I want to buy from him are kinect sports, dance central, and sonic free riders and he said he could do $50 on them and that they are official microsoft games and have the official microsoft halo on them. Im kinda iffy about this and was wondering if there was a possibility that they could be fake games, like he is just printing the lables on blank dvds or somthing like that. Is there anyway to tell apart a real game from a fake one. Also do companys exist that sell games for really cheap and stamp the cover and manual? I have already set up a time to meet him but i just want to make sure that they are real when i see them.
Thanks

well, i am right now looking at a gta iv disk and it has: silkscreen disc print, xbox 360 hologram around inner core of disc visible from both sides of disc along with a small holographic barcode and serial-type number on the data side. what you are talking about sounds kinda shady, but for me it doesent really raise any red flags....could be kinda grayish market, but i say if the discs are real and read then probably no problem. why dont you plan to bring a console, or request he have one set up for you check out personally?
covers and manuals can be acquired on ebay.

Almost sounds like what a video hire store would do (the stamping that is,tho ours over here use stickers so they can be removed & sold after use),so if only the front of the booklet is stamped that page could be removed,as for case cover they can be downloaded from cdcovers.net etc,One thing i'd look closely at is the underside, when a disc has had a few polishes it will no longer appear a nice crisp clear color with the brightish silver reflective of the material underneath,it will instead take on a clear bronze look you'll notice it quite easily it will tend to make the silverish reflective material appear bronzy,i'm not talking about when you move the disc on an angle & you get a rainbow of color it's just a tint that you'll see

games sound legit (not pirated copies).
However, I wouldn't do the deal. That is mow many thieves sell their stolen goods, not only the place, but also the sad excuses for not having the stuff. They leave that stuff behind to delay people. 1. People don't go through every game case they own every time they walk into a room, so they will take longer to notice. And they leave the manual to make them think that they just misplaced the game, or their little brother borrowed them, and whatnot. Plus it makes any evidence gathered tainted.
Another thing I've seen is employees from game rental companies (small and large) stealing games from cases, then blame it on customers (preferably those who return games through return bins, rather than in person).
Google up about possession of stolen goods, and then ask yourself if it is worth the risk that they could be stolen.
PS: there is not really any way to tell if a game is brand new or not. Even if it was scratched to hell, it could have been polished to the point that you can't tell. And yes, if done right, you cannot tell if a disc has been polished (the polishing compound just has to be fine enough, and that is sold everywhere). But that's all moot, anyway. Games are digital, each and every one is identical to the byte. In other words, it doesn't matter how old they are. (so why bother?) It either works or it doesn't. Even if it is scratched, just polish it. Pressed games have the foil in a sandwich of plastic, so unless the data is damaged, or the disc cannot be physically spun (ie, it is cracked or melted/warped), it can be polished to work just like a new game.

Agree with you on a disc that has only had x amount of polishing done i should have mentioned that in my first post that the signs WILL be impossible to detect, anything over that you'll see tinting & is unmistakable, hire enough movies & games you'll know exactly what i'm mentioning,i even have some here with that exact tinting which is not there when new
