I need some serious help here. My Xbox 360 drive just crapped out and won't read the disk any more. I just keep getting "Open Tray."
I need to know if there is a safe way to change my disk drive out. After some research I have found that it can be done, but the drive needs flashed along with F/W backups etc. Can someone please point me in the correct direction? I'm not trying to mod or any of that, just want to play my video games w/o getting banned.
Background:
I am an IT manager and am capable of understanding and completing tasks that are needed. I have all equipment necessary and Xbox is taken apart now.
Yes get a new lazer assembly....you can get them off of ebay.
or you can find the same drive model/firmware.....
then extract ur dvd drive key from ur dead drive and then use it for the "new one". (this is the same proces ud do if u were going to flash with modded firmware, except you won't be flashing any modded firmware)

ebay, they are cheap like $8. Plus, the lite-on is a good drive. If you want to replace the drive, you'd probably have to invest in more parts since you need a VIA 6421 card. No you don't need to flash the firmware as backup firmware. You would just spoof your OFW to the new drive and it is safe. I second the laser.
