Recently I soft-modded my 360. I have a Hitachi drive with firmware 1.51. I am laid off so I canceled my live account and NEVER plan on using it again. (So being banned doesn't matter) Now I have Assassin's Creed 2. When I loaded it, it said it needed to do a system update. I haven't updated yet. After looking through alot of forums. I tried patching the video and such to wave 3. But I still get the system update is needed message when launching game.

My question is, Is it safe to launch update right off disk? I also seen here that I could download the dashboard on a ubs stick. Whats the difference between the two? Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you didnt need to patch the video to wave 3 as a hitachi on 1.51 should be fine on wave 4.
you can install the update from either the game or the usb stick it is still the same data so it will be ok.

Thanks a ton Eggman. Loaded off disk and all is well. I was just afraid the update would brick my 360 if it detected firmware. Many thanks!!!

keep an eye on the hitachi drive as they are known to be unreliable and not so good.
