Alright, so I just picked up a new 360 today with a Liteon drive in it. Did firmware flashing and all that, and come to find out, the disk drive makes a god awful screeching sound when playing a game. The best thing I can compare it to is that ringtone that plays a high-pitched noise only "young" people can hear.
Question is, is there anyway to possibly fix this, or should I simply return it? I read a post I found on Google (dating back to 2005) that it may be due to magnets, but I'm assuming that's too far out of date to be my same problem.
The drive is a Liteon DG 16D2S
EDIT: I found a user experiencing a similar problem with the RE5 Jasper console, but unfortunately nobody offered up a reasonable answer...they just knocked him for returning a working console...LOL

Yeah, I'd definitely be annoyed with this problem...however, if you do return it, you may not be able to re-flash the new console. You could always hold on to it and flash your bin to another drive if it bothers you that much.

Why wouldn't I be able to flash the new console? Sorry I'm not really into the scene that much, and a few pages into AfterDawn didn't really help clarify. I just bought this one yesterday, and it's manufactured July 2009, so is there anything specific I should look for if I do return this one and look for another.

There are Liteon DG 16D2S (version 2s) which are the new Liteon 9XXXX drives (unmarked, no way to tell unless you try flashing and fail) which currently cannot be dumped...meaning, no current way to flash. If you decide to take a chance and return the console my best suggestion would be to get the earliest manufactured date you can find at the store, June 2009 and prior have been relatively safe bets...July 2009 and after is when these drives started appearing in mass quantities.
