no you need to take the key off the old drive and then put that key onto your new drive for it to work

Like widowmaka siad. But if you can't flash drives:
1. You'd have to swap it with an identical drive.
2. Also you'd have to swap the circuit boards of the two drives, because the current drive contains the key that matches your console's key.

what you need to do is replace the belt for the tray motor, this will 9 out of 10 times fix all your problems, it costs about 1.80 cents on ebay. best thing is you dont even have to open the drive to replace it, just like this one -----> http://cgi.ebay.com/DVD-Drive-Belt-Xbox-360-BENQ-VAD-6038-Stuck-Tray-/270612084521?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f01bcb729#ht_1329wt_905

I usually just take the belt off. Boil some water and put the belt in the water for about 15 minutes (off stove or microwave). Let the belt dry for a few minutes. Good as new ;)
