what is the best way to update with the new firmware...I have already have the old iextreme on my drive.

You need to flash the drive back to stock firmware.
Download the update to USB update from xbox.com.
Update the console with that USB update.
Flash your drive to the latest iXtreme Lt+ 1.91 or 1.92 firmware.
