Im not sure if that is what it is called but I had my box modded by a craglister since I have no idea what I would be doing.

But one of my friends said that if he didnt save my 'drive key' or something like that then I won't be able to update it. Is this true?

As long as the drive is working now then the key will be stored on it,

In short yes you will be able to update
