Please excuse the totally newb question. I know nothing about this. I have tried to research it and I keep get conflicting information. I have found that one site/video says yes another claims you dont need anything anymore.

I haven't attempted anything yet. Here is what we have:

My son has a black slim (the one that comes bundled with just the kinect and no memory). Do we have to MOD or flash the console in anyway to play iso's/downloaded games?

If you do need to MOD/flash the system could someone please explain the best way for this type of system or point me to the best link?

Yes. No console will play backups without being modded (except Dreamcast).

Basically you will remove the firmwar that's on the DVD drive and replace it with iXtreme firmware which allows booting of games on DVD+R DL media.

Just read the tutorial in downloads section over at Jungle Flasher's website.
