I have been able to burn older games fine with no problem. Recently I've tried to play a burned copy of splinter cell conviction and it won't work in my Xbox. When I insert the disc it says "Play DVD". I've tried renting a new game to get the updates and it updated but the splinter cell still won't play. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
right before the new waves. what FW are you using? if your not looking to rip games then upgrade to LT1.1 so far its safe but wont know till nov this year. or if you still want to rip games, then go with 1.61 but its not safe anymore for live..
You don't neccessarily have to upgrade the FW. I had the same problem just his past week. I hadn't burned any recent games, then got a few new ones that didn't work. I found out that my FW is old and won't read even Wave 3.
Rather than upgrade the FW, I decided to simply patch the games to work by changing the Wave to 2. I used a program called 360 wave patcher. There is a thead about it here...take a look at page 19 for instructions I posted earlier today to properly install this program. Worked like a charm!

The best solution is to upgrade the firmware, especially if the xbox isn't banned, i would only suggest wave patching the games if the console is banned.
Even then you need to think about future gameplay, e.g; say your xbox breaks down and you decide to get a new one, you flash LT1:1 to the drive and decide to take the new box on live, those games you patched WILL get you banned.
I'm not really worried about playing online. but I tried patching one game and when I put it in the xbox it said "please put disc into a xobx 360 console". Maybe it's the version of 360 wave patcher I have. What version of wave patcher worked for you?
