either the brick is bad or the 360. hard to tell unless you have another brick to try in its place. but you should be plugging it into the 360 first then plug it into the wall/poweroutlet
If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

ok, are you using the same powercord with both bricks? as in the cord that plugs into the brick then the wall. just want to make sure that isnt the problem before we say your 360 is bad

Sounds like you have a short circuit somewhere in the xbox. Make sure none of the USB connectors are bent/touching metal and if you've ever taken the motherboard out of the chassis make sure none of the metal clips around the ports are folded into the ports

I second w00ly, I have run into this a couple times as well.
"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

I agree with w00ly. I had one that wouldn't power on -- though the brick stayed amber when plugged in -- no change -- but the USB port had been damaged, and the metal fingers were grounded. Straightened them out so that they weren't touching the sides of the port causing a ground fault, and the machine powered on.
The ports on the front remain unusable, but there is one on the back!

Look into the front USB ports, and compare them to your PC...

Did you do a washer fix on this machine for a RROD?

No worries. It's a fix kit for the red ring, that if you don't do correctly, can cause a ground fault -- and your no power issue. I'd check the USB ports then. That's the easy fix. Two front and one back.
