NOTE: Yes i have used the search feature, i am an expert(at searching), however I am still posting a question =)
HI ALL! Nice community you have here, i havent been here since i softed my original xbox, anyway, i am now getting a new box and want to softy my current release date 360 (yes thats right release date ... how lucky am I!).
I've spent countless hours reading tutorials and guides, making sure i have the required hardware/software for the job, this is where you all come in, i am going to list some steps, if you would be so kindly as to tell me if I am correcto!
Software needed:
BenQ Firmware 1.2 (my drives a benq)
JungleFlash with firmware in firmware folder (For modding the 360's CD drive firmware)
agbx360 (For stealth patching the video files checksum).
Xbox backup creator (for creating Xbox backups ...)
Kreon flash (for flashing the dvd rom drive to read xbox discs)
yes/no/almost
Ok so!
Step 1:
Open my drive and pull out my sata cable from the xbox MOBO and plug into PC MOBO.
note: I have nForce550 chipset, i'm guessing this is a 'try your luck' kinda chipset? Or do we have confirmation?
Step 2: After powering on xbox, then PC, run JungleFlasher following its 50 page tutorial to flash the drive, hopefully all goes well. Shut down, unplug, and replug.
Step 3: Burning my own games, do i NEED one of these drives to burn my own games (below) and is this the only way to burn my current xbox games, to 'kreon flash' these drives. On a side note, will these drives still work as normal after being flashed.
Samsung Drives
SH-D163A (SATA - Older Model)
SH-D163B (SATA - Newer Model)
HP Drives
TS-H353A (SATA - Older Model)
TS-H353B (SATA - Newer Model)
Step 4:
Once my DVD-ROM drive is flashed, it can now read xbox game discs, run Xbox game creator, follow tutorials yada yada, use agbx360 to stealth patch the games, burn the games, insert int xbox and play in a well lit room.
I thank you all for your patience and keeping such communities alive!
TheZea.

You can use your PCs DVD burner as long as it can burn dual layer discs. The Kreon drive is only for ripping. It's firmware is out dated and doesn't get you the proper SSv2 that should be in your rips so don't buy/use one.

Thank you for the reply, so i can indeed RIP Xbox games with my current LG Drive?
As stated i want to be able to rip Xbox games. If my current drive cannot, do I still need to get one of these drives and some software? Of is there another method.
thank you, TheZea

No, you can't rip games with a regular PC DVD drive. You'll need a XBOX 360 DVD drive (LiteOn, BenQ, or Samsung) flashed with iX 1.6 0800 firmware to rip games properly.

Or you can get a Kreon drive. I think its much easier to use, the only thing you have to remember is to run the .iso file through ABGX and manually patch the DMI/SS files. This process only takes a minute. I've never ran into a problem.

Yeah i'm thinking the same thing, seeing as getting a 360 drive i have to do some fancy shmancy things with powering it. Any heads up on where i can grab one of these drives, i'm Aussie. I been E-bay'ing to no avail as of yet.
Thank you

or should have done as leerage stated and used a freaking xbox drive so you get the correct files. but if you wanted to spend more money and get yourself banned, whatever i guess.

C'mon it literally takes less than 1 minute to patch the SSv2 files to your iso. Also, your just as at risk of getting banned with any backup driver, you know this.

I guess the point at which I was getting at with the XBOX 360 DVD drive flashed with 0800 firmware is that you are ripping your SS, DMI, PFI, etc. If you are relying on SSv2 to get updated in the ABGX DB, then you are patching your rips with someone's data. Granted like you said Gary79, there is always a risk involved.
I'm shocked to see Kreons still going for $45 USD. I figured they would be a lot lower in price now.

First of all, no, i will not get banned, simply becuase this xbox will not connect to XBL, ever, ever ever, so i really am not worried about how the game is patched/works aslong as it does. I am getting a new box with Reach, and will still buy games that i want to play online, this one will be for those i can't justify (Dynasty warriors ... )
Secondly, the drive wasnt pre patched, i have the resources to patch it myself though, and yeah that was the cheapest i found, i was merely going by the sticky guide, which said the B was the newer model, i can merely go by what i've read here, correct?
Thirdly, and MOST unfortunately, it turns out i have the dreaded lite-on drive with 7XXX firmware ... firmware that as far as i can tell, needs an 'expects' take on hardware soldering and blah blah to get the key off, then having to swap the key for another drive, just my luck, my brothers is exactly the same!!...
However i shall not give up, either i find a cheap box i can mod, wait for a serial method or find a mod-chip (if thats still the go?).
Thank you for your replies, i've hit a rather large road bump =P
