Hi guys, i just have a few questions regarding the flashing of an xbox 360 and am hoping someone may be able to help me out. The stuff i need to find out is most probably already in this forum but having looked there is a lot of jargon and so many different ways of doing things i wouldn't know where to start.
ok, so im thinking of flashing my xbox 360 elite, however it has been updated to the new dashboard, so firstly does this make it impossible/harder to do? I don't yet know what type dvd drive i have.
also my main concern is xbox live. I play a lot of xbox live and don't want to risk getting banned. As i understand it (im probably wrong..) when the ban waves happen they know because the game you are playing is not retail, rather than knowing that the drive is flashed?... so provided i don't play any backed up games on live and only play originals on live would this prevent the possibility of being banned?
Thats just something i'd like to figure out before i consider flashing. I've also read installing a jtag but this looks like it would stop me using live all together.
Dash is too new for jtag, so that's out of question anyways. The xbox will do offline checks on itself also, not as extensive as live, but will flag you for a ban if they fail, and when you connect to live it will send info to microsoft. The firmware cannot be read by 360, what gives it away is challenge/response time, basically drive is supposed to retrieve data from disk within certain time, if its too fast or too slow then it's flashed. It's never 100% safe, but as long as you have lt+ and backup games correctly(this is where most people go wrong), you will be fine, and if you get banned oh well, you can get an arcade for 150 new and go another year or two. I've only been banned once in 5 yrs, but I dont do dumb stuff like play games a month early, like some idiots.
Thanks for the advice, im also looking into the possibility of just buying a cheap second xbox on ebay simply for playing back ups so i may go down that route. seen a few cheap which look like they are repairable. One im thinking of buying plays dvd movies but wont play games. which sounds like it either needs the correct key putting onto the drive or maybe just a new drive alltogether? is installing a new drive something that is cheap and easy to do?
Do not get the one that plays just movies. It is wrong key and you cannot get the key for it, unless it is jtagged which I dont see that happening. But yeah that is your safest bet just have one online and one off.
i have a few for sale if you are interested PM me and i'll be glad to sell you one, as stated stay away from any xbox that says plays dvd, because it is not repairable, if your elite was made after 9\9\09 you will most likely have to do an MRA to get the key, which is a lot harder than a normal mod, if you are worried about getting banned the correct information was given and you are better off to get a backup box.
