Hi, first of all i want to apologize if this happens to be something repetitive, but I have spend the better part of 2 hours 'key wording' all phrases to help my issue, so here goes:
I got an elite 360, with the hitachi drive, have had it flashed before (wave 2) back then games worked fine, then after a few months, some of my burned games, actually all of the ones that were handed to me by a friend didnt work, just the typical 'click' sound and 'open tray' but at the same time some of the older ones which i actually bought from pakistan worked perfectly.
I just got it re-flashed today, now the issue is its the same incident again, except I have backed up new copies (dante's inferno and bioshock 2). same old click and open tray.
to break it down:
1. originals work (tried mass effect 1)
2. oldest back up works (gears of war 2)
3. other back ups dont work (lego star wars, force unleashed)
4. latest 'burned' back-ups by myself do not work (bioshock 2)- Tested it with avgx360, burned iso at 2.4, verbatim dl+r lightscribe disk but burned on 'power2go' software that was included with my laptop. when inserted in dvd-rom, it gives that 5 sec video from xbox. so hopefully that means its a successful burn and copy is intact.
Now the issue is, could it be as far-fetched as the software i used to burn it? or could it actually mean the guy who flashed it didnt bother to update it (is there some way of figuring out what version your system is flashed at?) or do I need to do that plastic open drive insert to make it read the actual disc? It cant be the laser since things work perfectly fine like dvds.
So the question is, since i paid for this service should I take my games and console back and tell the guy what is the meaning of this? or what? Because im honestly lost.
Sorry for the length and thank you for whatever your input will be.
You either need to update your drive to the most current CF 1.51Hitachi 1.61Samsung/BENQ or LT/Lite-On. If updating doesn't solve your problem you likely have a bad laser lens.

Hitachis have notoriously bad lasers...tend to be the loudest of the drives as well in my experience. Even though you can play some dvds it doesn't mean all burns are created equal...or that the laser isn't dirty, weak, or dying. Give it a good cleaning to start off with it. even new lasers can get dirty quick depending on the environment that they're in. I would definitely take a look at the software used to burn the game as well. Imgburn is free and fantastic...works brilliantly. Try reburning a couple of games with it and test.
"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."
