OEM Power malfunction

The oem power wire shorted out on my xbox 360 a few days ago. I bought it used with seal broken and this is the only problem I have had with it.I was wondering if I buy a new one and hook it up, would that work? Is there a specific type needed for each model or will any kind work?

If just the power brick has gone bad, then yes, replacing it will fix your problem. Check the light on the brick piece to see what is going on? I'm not sure what you mean by "OEM POWER WIRE SHORTED OUT ON MY XBOX 360"?

Certain consoles use a certain power supply. At the back of your 360 on the small sticker, it should have some ratings:
16.5A = 203watt power supply
14.2A = 175watt or 203watt power supply
12A = 150watt or 175watt or 203watt power supply.

Just remember, if the plug fits into the 360, it will work, if it doesn't fit, DON'T force it, its not the right connection, and you will need to change the brick. The 203watt brick is the universal brick, and will fit ALL consoles.

It is the 10 wire hook-up that connects the mother board to the dvd drive inside the xbox 360. One of the wires got hot and melted the caseing a little.

ahhh... the dvd drive power cable... those are all the same, you can buy one, and it should work fine.. just remember to install it the right way... if you plug in the drive with the cable backwords, you'll fry your drive.
