if i just paid $40 to get my xbox flashed to 1.6 a few month ago,
should i pay another $40 to update to 1.61?
this kinda sucks.. why did they put in this security thing when we are supposed to check them with abgx anyway?
now i have to pay another $40 to get this security check disapear?
and i can't do it myself because my pc is 7 years old and doesn't have any sata and stuff.
anyway i guess my real question is... if i update to 1.61 now, do i have to pay another $40 to get it flashed again when ms rolls out another next update?

i read but my pc is 7 years old and i can't afford a new pc.
it doesn't have any sata at all, also random crashes and hard drive failures and stuff.. it's falling apart.

gonna ask my mom for $4 if i have to re-flash it.

You don't need "sata and stuff" - get a sata card.

You don't need to flash it then. Use 1 dual layer and burn an activate ISO with it. Then use the activate ISO anytime you want to play a Wave 4 game.

MW2 came out today? AFAIK mw2 worldwide release date is the 10th November, the same date as the last two call of duty's.

exist4u, no offense, but since you don't know what a Sata card is, and don't seem to have a lot of "tech" knowledge, I'd suggest you go ahaed and pay the 40 bucks and get it one-sixty-one-ified. 40 bucks is cheaper than a retail copy of GTALCS/Tekken6/Modern Warfare 2, which is probably why you need the update. So just pony up the money. That, or take leerage's suggestion and burn an "activate" disc. But, if you do get it re-flashed, downgrade to 1.51, so you won't ever have to worry about firmware updates anymore.

Why downgrade to 1.51? If anything if he does get it re-flashed he should upgrade to 1.61.

1.6 and 1.61 are the same thing except 1.61 disables a security check that prevents wave 4 games from playing. 1.61 = able to play wave 4 games. 1.6 = have to use activate .iso disk to play wave 4 games. 1.51 = can't play wave 4 games (except for hitachi models).

thats what i was saying he told him to flash it to 1.5 so he would never have to flash again i dont remember seeing where the poster said he had a hitachi drive.

actually re reading and he even states that he thinks his drive is flashed at 1.6 so i just dont see the logic in that statement i am not trying to be ignorant but if the guy cant flash his console himself lets not confuse him.

you got me worried cause i was happy with the 1.61 no security check i double triple check all my games so that feature of the firmware for me was useless i would rather not have to keep flashing my drive
