Alright heres the deal... I have two hitachi 79's recently my newest one stopped reading discs and it clicks when it is tryin to read the disc. I thought the drive went bad.. but I tried the old drive that worked when I took it out and it does the same thing. I also tried a dvd on both drives and both drive boards and all it does is spin up - laser turns red, the laser adjusts(clicking noise). Disc stops... spins back up, etc. until it finally says open tray.. I also tried a different sata cable. I'm at a loss.. its not the drive but what could it be??
Please share your feedback or provide links that may be helpful. Thank you in advance.

Guess i'll just make bill gates richer and get a new xbox. May continue to mess with it, I can use my roomates when he's workin for now. haah. I'll keep ya updated if I come up with ne thing. Thanks for your replies!!
