hey guys, I'm getting an open tray error with my liteon 7 series drive. I've read through some of the previous posts on this issue, and most people seem to say that its due to the laser going bad...
so I've swapped out the pcb's from 2 different liteon drives, and same deal... so I don't think its the laser.... system boots up fine, goes to dashboard, but takes quite a while trying to read the disks, and then gives me open tray.. and this is with original disks.
Now, I apoligize, but I cannot confirm the firmware on it as it was a 2nd hand system... so I'm also trying to find out if it has valid firmware on it... but to my understanding, if it was a bad flash, or if the key was missing it would give me an E65 error, correct?

Open tray is never a firmware issue. It's aways related to the laser. If you were getting the "To play this game, blah blah", then it would be the firmware. Get a new drive or laser that you know for a fact is good.

Sometimes it can be a CAD issue.

cheap ass disk... nice one...
but no, it can't be the disks because its giving me open tray with originals... it will sometimes say Play DVD.... but I have never seen the "to play this game" message...
but I have a drive that I know works.. and like I said, I swapped the pcb's.. did the soldering thing and everything.... and its still giving the open tray...

Thanks for the info Modking.. I wasn't sure if open tray could be caused by invalid/bad/no firmware...

well... I checked my drive over again and noticed 1 of the ribbon cables had popped out... so I re-secured that, and now i'm not getting the open tray anymore... its giving me the PLAY DVD error... and whenever I press select, it shows the xbox 360 logo with the message "To play this DVD, put it in an Xbox 360"...
I've inserted/ejected about 20 times, and each time it gave that message now... and it shows it pretty fast...
is this related to firmware? or do you still think its a bad laser?
Thanks for all the help though!
