So I've been banned from xbox live.
Which means I can no longer watch movies from my computer because of microsoft being idiots and requiring you to re-download the optional media update every time you remove your hard drive. I really don't get that but whatever. Is there ANY possibility of downloading the optional media update and burning it to a cd? Or am I just completely screwed

Far as I know you could update the 360 via disk or usb. I wouldn't know where to find the particular update, but it should be out there somewhere.

That's as much as I know too. Only problem is that I can't find it anywhere. I wonder if you can download the DRM tools?

It does work, and that's what I'm using. But all my files are AVI. When I try to play anything it says I need the update.
There has to be a way around this

Though they play an important role in the early stage, the techniques should not be too mechanical, complex or restrictive. If we cling blindly to them, we shall eventually become bound by their limitations.

The optional media update is protected by the same DRM used by XBLA games and DLC. The only way to get it is via Xbox live. You can't download it on a different consoles using your hard drive, because the DRM ties it to the console it's downloaded on. Basically, you're screwed.

actually not exactly, i had an xbox in 06..it RROD'd i got another xbox and put my old hdd on it..all my arcade games, demos, and dlc for guitar hero and halo are still there..but can only be played on the profiles that it was downloaded on...the content is connected to the profile more than the console.. its just the content can be accessed on the same console for all profiles because of basically a bios chip you could say..stored memory that the console bought the content..if you swap harddrives that memory is gone..so to be safe the console only allows the content to be accessed by the profile in which it was purchased. so if he already had it with that profile. he could somehow install it.. look at torrentz.com and search..i find alot of my stuff there

I know that, but if you connected the hard drive to a different console, you have to be signed into Live with the gamertag that downloaded the content in order to access it. You can't do that on a banned box, which is why I didn't mention it. That's why he's having this problem in the first place. The content is actually tied to the gamertag, hard drive and console.

The only way is with a license transfer, but you can't transfer licenses to a banned box because it needs to be connected to Live when you do it. This is why should make sure your licenses are up to date if you're using Live with a flashed box, because if they're not and you get banned, you lose access to your XBLA games and DLC on that console and there's nothing you can do about it.

me neither but I just ordered one for 20$ because I really cannot go without streaming to my xbox. I could care less about live but I use my xbox to watch TV more than i actually watch cable. In the mean time I've been using TVersity, and just set transcoding to always.

Well that's technically what I meant when I said new. There's now way I'm actually going to buy a NEW xbox.
But being banned isn't so bad. As long as you get another xbox that is. Then you have an un-modded xbox for the occasional online game, like call of duty, and a modded one for all your single player needs.
