My 360's disc drive died, so I opened it up to see what model it is (my warranty's up already). It's a DG-16D2S from Phillips/LiteOn. Based on my research, if I want to swap out the circuit board for a replacement drive, I'd need to do some soldering. My soldering skills are pretty sub-par, so do I have any other options? Can I buy a different drive and flash the firmware? Will I need extra hardware to flash the firmware? Will it be more worth it just to pay someone else to do it?

Just buy another drive of the same and have it flashed, or send your drive away to be replaced with a new one flashed for you with LT+
quick search of net will find someone who can do it
oh and yes you need stuff to do it, as a one ff its not worth buying all the gear
