Ok. Here we go. I have a dilemma. A friend of mine let me attempt to Flash his 8xxx Series LiteOn drive. I was able to read the keys and extract all of the dummy.bin, inquiry.bin, etc files. I erased the drive and the pc froze. So now the drive has no firmware and won't eject with the connectivity kit. I tried the LiteOn erase method in JungleFlasher to try to recover the drive. But it keeps giving me a Drive Failed message. I would like to try the dosflash method with a usb flash drive but I have no clue where to start. Do you have any suggestions? I have not found any current tutorials for dosflash 1.9 or even any current tutorials on how to make a bootable usb stick these days.

Btw, I am running Windows 7 32-bit with a Usb ixtreme V3 Connectivity kit and the newest JungleFlasher.

I appreciate your time and patience with a newb!!

Do you have the drivers disabled? It will freeze everytime if you don't have them disabled. You just need to resend the erase and flash from there. You may need to manually eject the drive to get it in half way mode. Sometimes they are picky.

So you mean the VIA will still work with the drivers disabled? That's in device manager, right?

correct. Disable the drivers in device manager or JF will just freeze. rename the viaraid.sys to viaraid.sys.old or it's called something like vmraid.sys in windows 7. Then JF won't freeze. Resend the erase and flash.

Well, I'm not really having a problem with it freezing at this point. If I ever get a chance to write the firmware that will come in handy. It's just when I click "Erase LiteON" and power cycle, it gives me a drive error and says 0xFF or 0x00 or something like that.

What are your thoughts on Dosflash 1.9 or the Mod Disc (or Mod USB drive)?

reboot your computer. You just need to get the drive in vendor mode. Is the tray half way open?

I disabled the driver, changed it's name, and re-enabled the driver. I got the same error as before. Stupid me forgot to reboot the computer. Once I rebooted it and clicked Erase LiteOn, it worked. My drive is now repaired and flashed with LT+1.1. I had no idea disabling the drivers would work. I just figured if the drivers were installed and it detected/read the drive before then it must be fine. I will forever remember to change the file extention on the driver!

I truly appreciate all of the help!
