I am actually also after info on playing games off a HDD.. I just Jtagged my 360 today but am unsure of how to setup the HDD and get games on it.
Install an app like freestyle dash 1.20 and have fun. It has a file manager so it can install other apps. Use Quickboot 2.1 to create a shortcut to it from the NXE Dash. Also I reccomend having an external HDD connected as the default HDD can't store much and Freestyle Dash is 20 times easier to run with an external HDD. If your unsure just google it or ask me if you want.
Okay thanks.. I actually don't even have a HDD for this 360 so I am hoping I can store everything on a USB HDD. Is that possible to store profiles and game saves on the USB drive too? Whats the max size HDD supported? Can I get a 1TB and use all the space to put games on it?

If you don't want to buy a HDD for your Xbox get a memory card. You will still be able to store all your games and emulators and stuff on that but your profile needs to be on a HDD or Memory card. I've got a 1.5TB drive hooked up but 0.5TB is formatted to store larger files so it is not recognised but the 1.0TB partition is recognised. As far as I know there is no limit of the external HDD. You can use all the 1TB for games and emulators and roms and all that and games take up around 6GB each when importing them with Freestyle Dash so you can fit soooooo many.
if your using 6 gigs something might not be correct there. most of mine are around 4 gigs using imagebrowser and dumping them into the 'games' folder. but then again, im not using FSD so that might be the difference. im just using xexmenu to launch them.

It depends on the game. All games are under 7.29 gigs, but are padded so that the ISO on the disc is exactly 7.29 gigs. If the content of the game is 4 gigs, then that means there is 3.29 gigs of padding. But when you install that game, Freestyle, XeXMenu, and even Microsoft's dashboards all copy only the needed files and not the padding.

The max HDD size is probably unlimited. Whatever the hard drive's size is, it'll probably recognize all of it (minus the usual 5% or so after formatting). I have 2 hard drives on my JTAG. A 1TB laptop drive inside of the Microsoft HDD detachable case. And a 2TB USB external. On the 2TB I get 1.81 terabytes recognized, and the 1TB got about 920 gigabytes recognized. So I'm pretty sure you can use any size drive.
