hi, after lots of research, im about to attempt to flash my 360's benq drive.
my problem is this:
ive purchased a sata pci card (VIA VT6421), i slotted it into a pci slot, booted the computer, windows recognised it and i installed the drivers that came with it from the disk. I was then promted to restart windows for hardware changes to take effect.
When i reboot the cpu freezes on the windows xp loading screen, and will not load windows as long as the sata card is in the pci slot.
as soon as i remove it, windows will load ok.
i've looked everywhere on the bios but there is nothing that refers to the sata controller anywhere.
This happens wether or not my benq 360 drive is connected.
Also worth noting is my machine is quite old, and the motherboard and bios would have all been created before sata was invented!
Try booting into safe mode. Then perform these steps:
1. Disable VIA card in Device Manager
2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and remove viamraid.sys or vsmraid.sys.
3. Re-enable VIA card in Device Manager
4. Re-boot PC and run Windows normally.
Hi,
thanks a lot man, i did that and it worked. i saw that bit in your tutorial now, but forgot about it. Anyway, all flashed and done now.
thanks for all the tutorials and resources in your sig, they're a great help.
ok, everything worked fine for connecting the xbox drive, but now i want to run a sata hard drive from the pci card, but when i reinstall the viamraid.sys driver to try get everything back to normal, im left with the same problem with windows not booting up...
anyone know how i can fix this?
many thanks.
