Hi all! first off im new here and still getting used to things, but I did search (not my first forum! I know better) but I didnt find any thing.
I bought my first 360 6 days ago, opened it up, figured out I had the liteon, hooked it up to my pc, flashed, all is well.
I like to use the lite-on to rip my games using XBC, but in order to do this I have to pull the xbox apart, hook up the sata to my pc, power the box up pull the plug on the dvd rom and set it to half open then turn on my computer. have backed up my 8 game collection (love buying used games cheap!) but my vision is to be able to d this with out buying another drive and not have to open my box. I found the sata mod, will be doing it later today hopefully, but my question regards the power.
I want to use a switch spliced in the dvd power connector to temporarly shut down the dvd rom so I can set it to half open for "0800 mode". I for get the pin number but there is one that that said something to the effect of "dvd power" or something. can I splice a swith in there, then eject the drive, hit the switch, set the drive to half open, turn switch back on, then power up the pc?
sorry for the book, just wanted ppl to know what I was doing exactly. also on the latest 1.6 f/w is there another way to enable 0800?

I don't know the solution to your problem, but I'd like to say that this is what a supposed "newbie" post should be. A detailed explanation of the issue and what you're trying to do, and someone who has obviously done some research on their own.
Kudos to you. Glad you've joined us.
The rest of you posting "Xbox 360 problem", should take note!

lol thanks! as I stated before Im a newbie here, but been using forums for years, but I tend to over explain things some times... lol
Also im sitting on a donation table giving plasma (great income for my projects!) so I have time to look around and reasearch before I stop at the parts store on my way home
*edit*
also is there only this one sub-forum for all the 360? I see a few for xbob 1 and ps2, all regarding hardware software ect, then only one for general 360 and ps3?

Maybe this would help. It's the original "lite on key for free" thread over at x-s. Obviously you don't need a guide to get your key, but it does include a part about powering the drive and adding a switch for it.
Plus, although I haven't looked through it in quite awhile, if you scroll through some more of the posts there I think there were even more pics of drive power setups.

hey all I know its been awhile, but after some trial and error I got this up and running. i can post pics later, but all I did was hook a SPST switch in the wire on pin 3. when I want to go into mode b to dump games or reflash all i have to do is open the disk drive, flip the switch, push in halfway, and flip it the other way.
I have the switch and sata connector located under the HDD o I just pop it off when needed. cant see ANYTHING when its just sitting there, just a plain ol-elite box.
Like I said I can get pictures tomarrow, I have to head to bed. sorry this took so long but UPS lost my package in the mail and with it just being X-mas it took them a little longer to find it. payed for 2 day shipping to have it on x-mas eve and just got it today...

Drives are cheap, why not pickup an ebay drive for ripping?

eventually I will, but for now this works wonders and was all of a few bucks.
2 reasons I did this for now:
The "wow factor" and the thought of "Yea, I did that", its nice to see something work that you did with your own 2 hands, especially nice since Iv had this thing for what, a week now? never even touched one before this.
Also I really dont need another drive cluttering up my desk. My "Gamers station" doubles as my desk and everything. I have 3 computers, a laptop, a 360, ps3, 32 inch TV, 2 other monitors, 2 sets of keyboards and mice, all my controllers, speakers, wires and just a shit ton of stuff here, Ill have to cut it up to make the drive fit in the computer, then decide which computer to put it in, my home server that is always "busy" but currently holds all my game iso's, my lightning fast pc, but its also my main one, or my backup thats slower, but hardly used? right now I can choose. If its early int he morning and no on is logged into the server Ill copy and burn it from that one, prevents me from having to transfer it later. If Im not really doing anything or going out Ill do it on my main computer so it gets done quicker and probably better, or if Im playing a game in the main PC Ill do it on my back up, which has taken upto 10-30 mins longer Iv noticed. this way I have the flexibility.
I will get another drive so I can copy a game and play a different one on the 360, but Ill possibly have an enclosure or wire it up into a 4 pole switch (if possible) so I can select which computer to use...
