Hi all,

Santa got an Xbox for my son and whilst I have some skills in relation to flashing set top boxes etc I'm a complete numbskull when it comes to the xBox and HDTV etc.

I followed the instructions and hooked up the xBox to my Samsung Plasma PS-42C7HD HD Ready tv via the AV source i.e. the red, yellow and white pins. Gameplay looks OK as do DVD's played on the xBox but menus look very dull and the writing is very difficult to read. I also had to set the xBox to PAL 60 as some games won't play on the original PAL 50 setting which to me seemed to offer a higher level of definition both ingame and specifically in terms of making the menu's legible.

The questions I have are:-

1. Will the standard AV cable which came with the xBox give me the best quality definition for gameplay/DVD's and menu legibility or do I need to get a cable whic will allow me to use the one HDMI slot on the TV or the component inputs or even a scart?

2. Which is the right PAL setting 50 or 60? I'm in Dublin.

not sure how all cables are in the UK area as i am in the states. but i use the red/green/blue video cables and use the red/white ones for audio. this will give you almost full HD. or you could use HDMI, or the vga cable to get true HDMI. however, the component cables work just fine for my crappy eyes.
