I was reading a thread on here that said the new update only hit the internal memory and you could use your HDD from your modded box and switch them back and forth between a flashed box and a stock.

Obviously not - since the new updates were about to hit I got out my stock-never-flashed 360 and put on my HDD from my modded box onto the stock and downloaded the update.

I just put that HDD back on my modded box that had NO Live access and there's a problem......

I put in a burnt disc and when I launched it it said that I HAD to update to play the game. Obviously I didn't out of fear of it flashing me to stock.

Turned off the 360, took off the HDD and put in a clean, formatted memory card.

Still tells me to update or I CANNOT play the game.

If I boot up with no HDD, memory card or NO external memory whatsoever I can boot a back-up BUT - the internal memory no longer shows up and I can't create a profile, so I can play games but I can't save any progress due to not being signed in with a profile.

If I go to System Settings>Memory it does NOT show the internal memory, just says there is NO storage device. I was planning on formatting it/clear system cache hoping that would solve it but it says there's no memory at all. Obviously there is because when I put in the clean memory card that has no updates on it it prompts me to update when I launch it or I can't play the game. IE whenever I'm signed in with a profile regardless of what external memory I'm using it prompts me to update so it's obviously sitting there on the internal memory waiting to eff me lol.

Is there a way to fix this without applying the update and re-flashing?

That's all I can think of, applying the update and then reflashing with LT+ 1.1, or LT+ 1.9 if it's out soon. Problem is I don't know how to flash or have the tools for it, I pay a guy who is at a computer fair every 2 or 3 weeks.

Seems my options are:

Fix this somehow without applying the update

OR

Just play without saving until I can get it reflashed and apply the update, and not use any external memory that has been near the new update. I'm sure if I apply this update I will lose the ability to play back-ups and will have to wait a week or two to get it re-flashed. If that's the case I'd rather just muck around with my back-ups without saving instead of not being able to play them at all.

Any help much appreciated.

Oh, and thanks to the guy with the misinformation who's put me in this position. If you don't what you're talking about keep it zipped!

Edit: OK found a bit of a workaround, if I launch with no external memory, THEN plug in a memory card I can sign into a profile and save my game. Can you plug in your HDD while the console is turned on or does that risk corruption? If it does I'm sure the same risk applies to the memory card, but I'd rather start a game again and risk the memory card getting corrupted since there's nothing on there except my new game saves.

If you do an update with the same drive on an xbox, it will store that update on the hard drive. Meaning, since your other box had an older update, it will scan the drive and find the new update you just installed on the other drive. You should be able to delete the update or just say "no" to the update.

That's the thing though man, it's on the internal memory now and I can't access it, doesn't show up anymore.

If the HDD with the update is not attatched to the 360, and I only have a memory card that's completely empty and formatted it still prompts me for the update.

When I say no to the update the xbox stalls and stays a blank screen. It's not one of those ones where it says you will be signed out of Live, it says that if I don't update I can't play the game at all.

It seems the 360 transferred the update from the HDD to the internal. As I said I would delete the update from the internal memory but it's now inaccessible.
