Probe problom in JF

Hi all
Here is my problom I brought a xbox conectivity kit from ebay a while back and it has served me well doing a few benqs now its time to do my first lite on 7485c.
Now the kit i got was only cheap and the prob that came with it has no fancy lights on it but just looks like the probe of a multimeter. but has a seriel conection on the other end. ive conected this to my pc via a usb adapter this adapter works well when flashing other things so I know that works.
But in jf I dont think its finding the prob properly as it comes up as
Port : com5
type : usb
Name : prolific usb-to-serial comm port
status : ready
but nothing comes up in the jf box at the bottom
as a result when i press the dvdkey32 tab I get the error message seriel data is bad

Is there any thing i can do to make this work or will I have to spend out on a better conectivity kit

Tray half open?

Either way, the new thing is full dumps, so that wouldn't be what you need if you want to be safe on live.

Yes tray is half open the drive is recognised in jf i just dont think the probe is. not to bothered about safe on line I just want to read the key of the drive so I can replace it as its starteed to play up

ok been researching this a bit and i think with the probe ive got i need to solder the drive board as I dont want to do that what are my options on buying another probe which will work with my conectivity kit (think its a Ck) or will i be best to but a new complete kit which is better as this one sometimes strugles to open the drives anyway.
one last thing if I get the key info of this lite on will I be ok to replace the drive with a benq as the laser on this one is shot

ok thanks for the help you guys anyway Im going to bite the bullit and buy this a Team Xecuter Xbox 360 Connectivity v3 http://www.mrmodchips.co.uk/catalog/prod...ffed12a82d3e370 unless any bodt else has any better ideas

1 more thing when i do dump the key from the lite on will i be ok to swap the drive for a benq ?
