Okay following on from another thread where i had a problem with the PCB board, i have now installed the new board into the drive and JF detects the drive with no problem.

The problem im now having is that when i send Mode B to the drive it displays as okay but the drive will not stay closed. When i press close twice the drive closes, green light flashes for 10 seconds and then the drive ejects by itself. I also cannot dump the FW off the board via either winapi or port i/o. I get a ram execute failed message.

God i hate this drive!!! Anyone any ideas?

Make sure you set it to 47 before you try to dump the firmware, It shouldn't matter if it ejects you should still be able to read from the drive, also go to device manager and make sure the hitachi is there and make sure you select the right drive letter on the top right in jungleflasher.

Consoles:

XBOX360 Falcon console with Lite-On 74850C

PS3 80gb phat model with 120gb hdd

PS3 60gb model

PS3 modded on 3.55

couple of questions are you using the 360 to power the device? are you ticking the mode select when you dump the drive?

Having to press twice to close, and having it reopen on you indicates that it is in mode B. That's what you want, so flash, then outro to get out of vendor mode and you're good.

Lite-On 74850, Ben-Q 64930, Hitachi 47DJ, Samsung MS28.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately i cannot get it to flash or dump the firmware. I have tried mode select, ram upload and classic and i get the same error message 'ram execute failed'.

It does appear to go into mode B okay but i have even tried the extra button press and the drive will just not stay shut.

I am using another spare 360 that i have to power the drive (not the one that the drive should be in as im waiting on a power supply to arrive) but i dont think that would make any difference as all im doing is powering the drive from the 360.

Im seriously considering taking a sledgehammer to the flipping thing.

Drive was in a rrod machine i acquired. Fixed the RROD then realised the PCB board was faulty so replaced with same revision PCB board.

why not use the audio CD?

edit: sorry stupid reply, have you tried restoring it to OFW? because then it should grab the keys. although this is a hitachi v59 here is my source

http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60283

which leads me to the link below. maybe a work around to retrieving the keys.

are you using a ck3 or ck3 pro connected to a via sata card? to flash the hitachi drives you HAVE to do it with winapi you have to have the sata cards drivers installed for this to work and the drive has to show up in windows using the classic method to dump is risky as it will show a flashed firmware as stock, ram upload will work for dumping and flashing this way
let me know if your still stuck, oh i also had to use the external port on my sata card and not the internal one

Nope not using the CK3. I have tried both Winapi and Port IO, in Winapi windows does detect the drive but still cant dump the OFW or flash. (i have the old fw from the old board on my desktop btw). Drivers are installed also.

The card only has 2 ports on it from what i can see. Internal one doesnt detect anything and the back port is the one that does but having problems with. I will try the flashing stock f/w thing and see what happens. Will update once i've had the chance to do so.

Okay so i tried my onboard sata and surprise surprise it worked. Would appear that my 6421 sata card doesnt like Hitachis. Have now discovered that the laser on the drive is goosed LOL after all that. Will swap it out for a BenQ which i didnt really want to do seeing as i was going to put it on Live but oh well will keep it for offline play.

Just for future reference how would i have put the firmware onto the Hitachi? I mean i had the firmware from the original PCB board and obviously the new board had its own f/w with drive key. How would i have got the drive key onto the Hitachi from the old PCB? Would i have flashed it with the original FW from the old drive and then reflash to LT+? Hitachis really confuse me the noob that i am!!!

BTW thanks to everyone that offered suggestions on this thread.
