Hey guys, been awhile since i posted here much. After UFC game came out i started playing it like crazy and still am. today however i need some help flashing a hitachi v79. I have done other hitachi before but this is my first v79.
I tried lastnight and i only got the drive to read and dump once but after that all reads fail for some reason. Here are the details of what i did: I tried this using JF version 1.55 and version 1.60. I dont have internet at my home now so i could not downlaod newer version lastnight or look anything up. I was using the guides for JF version 1.51 and v1.55...they both have same directions so i guess doesnt matter.

so i am using connectivity kit and i hook up drive to my via card and kit and power on then start JF. I have via drivers removed and the card is seen on my sata port and i am using port IO. i send mode b, open tray click ok and the drive closes and then i check with double press to open and close and it works. I insert 79 unlock disc which the guide says to do. (i just downloaded newest JF and the guide for it has same instructions)
i press 79 unlock and it goes thru says it is playing then says something 500ms then ejects. now at this point the guide doesnt say to leave the tray open or to close so i have tried both when attempting to dump the drive. when i send the command it usually says attemping then it has a few dots and pauses and then says ram upload execute failed. this happens everytime and sometimes it gets a few .... then pauses and sometimes it goes a lot like .............

I have only goten it to dump once using jf 1.60 and after that it wont do it again. i cant flash it cause it tries to dump again before flashing and it failes.

My plan so far is to use the newest version of JF i just got from Xbins which is 1.65 and try again using the same instructions. I cant try again till i get home since i am working now. but any advice would be great as i am stuck and need to get it done asap cause the person is from out of town that the box belongs to.

Thanks

I would install the 5.30c VIA driver back on to the computer. I have found that the 5.30c driver works great for Hitachis. Once you have the driver installed you will use WinAPI rather than PortIO.

ok i havent heard of the 5.30c driver before. is that just the viasys.dll(not exact filename) file i removed? i saved a copy of it on usb and actually reinstalled it lastnight and the card was seen by windows correctly like normal but still no change so i removed the driver again.
and if i switch to winAPI do i need to uninstall port IO first before adding winAPI?
man i feel like a noob for being out of the loop here on things, normally i would just find the answers on my own but with no net at home for now and being busy at work i cant really spend hours researching. Thanks for the reply man!

You need to keep PortIO installed to see the Hitachi before Mode B. Once in Mode B, WinAPI will kick in. To install the 5.30c driver, you will need to do a manual install through the device manager. Here is a link to the .inf:

5.30c driver

Install that and reboot. Load up JF, put your Hitachi in Mode B. JF will detect there are VIA drivers installed and grey out PortIO.

SUCCESS!!!! instaled the drivers recommended and used new version of JF(may not have been needed) modeB send good, Drive unlock good, dump...failed. close JF, turn drive off and unplug sata and plug back in, turn drive on start JF and try again and dump failed. i removed Port IO and reinstalled it, at the sametime i switched sata cables and on the next try it worked perfect. so it was either port io drivers or my sata cable. i dunno but it worked.

Thank you for the help leerage!!

oh just curious, i noticed everyone removed their gamertag sigs....was this for any certain reason? PM if needed

Glad you got it resolved. I removed mine because kids kept sending me messages over XBL about how to mod their drive. Unbelievable.... kids so impatient for me to check their thread or PM they got to send me a message over XBL.
