I have a modded 360 new with a jasper motherboard. I havent done any microsoft update. So far all of my games worked with no problem, including street figther 4 and resident evil 5.
But now i got a Prototype backup and when i try to run it i got an error that goes like "Please insert this disk into a xbox 360" ou "Please insert a xbox 360 disk".
Where is the problem? Must i run an update or the backup is damaged?
Anyway I also want to know if I run the microsoft update on my xbox 360, will it keep running backups?

You need to update the system and make sure whoever modded your system did it with the latest FW which is 1.6 for everything but a Hitachi, which is at 1.51 still.

it is safe to update your console. No-one is ever safe from a ban but its ideal to keep your console updated with the latest firmware. As for prototype not playing, to me that sounds like bad media burned by your writing software or that your firmware is below 1.51 (3rd wave game). Try use verbatim discs. They are the closest match to the xbox originals.

There is an updated firmware out. If your console doesn't have the latest firmware (1.51 or 1.6) then the new games that come out like Prototype will not play as they have a new software added to them called wave 3 and any firmware below 1.51 will not play the wave 3 games. If you have the latest firmware and Prototype will not play, it sounds to me that the game hasn't burned on the disc correctly or the media you are using is poor. Always try use Verbatim.

You could always patch the game, following the instructions on Linkie
This will allow you to play new Wave 3 games on old firmware. It prolly get you banned from xbox live though.
Ignore my first response on said Linkie, as I was incorrect

Simple Terms - Whoever moded your xbox to play burt games, call them, and tell them you need the new mod that is out, so you can play the new games.

Soo... i need to run TWO updates?
-> update the xbox 360 firmware (microsoft update)
-> update the mod firmware
Is that correct or is it just one update?

Updating the DVD drive firmware has nothing to do with Microsoft. You need to connect your drive to your computer and flash it.

Look I didnt flash my xbox myself but also Im not a noob about hardware. So far what I got was...
I need to discover wich disc drive is my xbox. After that I believe i should search the proper tutorial. And basically what I got to do then is conect the drive to my pc with a sata cable and the use the proper application to flash it.
Am I correct?

You can try to read the firmware off the drive with your onboard SATA. If it doesn't work, you will need to purchase the VIA SATA card with the 6421 chipset.
