Anyone else notice that game companies are pushing for pre orders now with incentives of unlocking some type of special weapon/character upon doing so? So far I have noticed with Assasins Creed, Medal of Honor, and some other one I can't think of at the moment. These are all recent games so I think we will be seeing a lot more of this.

they want you to preorder so they can project the sales and know how many to actually send out.

If a certain gamestop is in the middle of a bigger town and they have 1500 people pre-order say fable 3. then they may send them 500 more copies or even 1000 more. In doing this you reserve your copy and you also get a little extra (sometimes) for the extra five bucks of so you gave to them. this manages their operation with the copies they send out and give them good data for future releases so they please you and make more money. In all it is a WIN-WIN situation and not at all bad
