Hello all, I have an elite that still has a working disc drive (Hitachi 3120L 0079FK) and I have purchased a replacement (TS-H943A MS28) because my 3120 is showing signs of going out.
I have done 10+ DVD drive swaps for friends of mine ect, and they have been mostly BenQ drives, TS drives, and 1 Hitachi 3120 with 78 firmware. I have replaced all of these drives with the TS-H943A drive successfuly using firmware toolbox 4.8 and dosflash32 OR using JungleFlasher and they all work fine to this day.
So to my question, I used JungleFlasher to modeB/and unlock using the audio CD. I read and saved the firmware for the 3120 and have the key as well. I then hooked up the TS drive and again used JungleFlasher to Unlock and read/dump the firmware to a file for backup. I then used JungleFlasher to spoof the firmware on the TS to report as the 3120L 0097 and ensured the key and id strings copied over right. I then erased and wrote the spoofed firmware to the TS drive, sent the outtro, and turned off the drive. Hooked it up to the xbox and it booted to the dash fine, and when I put in the first game (Force Unleashed) it read and played the game fine. I ejected the game put in another game (Burnout Revenge) and it came up as a dvd. tried the other game again and same thing. now it will every 5 or 6 times that I put in a game read it and play it fine and the rest of the time says put it in an xbox 360 to play.
IS THIS DRIVE JUST BAD? I have used these drive LOTS of times but never with a 0079FK, this is my first one with this firmware revision on it. This means that the firmware rev I have spoofed on the drive and the dvd key are correct doesn't it? It wouldn't play a game at all if any of that was incorrect right?
Has anyone ran into this? I consider myself in the know on how to replace dvd drives in these boxes. I'm not trying to use any type of hacked firmware at all just the stock firmwares. I want the box to get on Live! afterwards so I'm not trying anything sneaky. I can return the drive for a new one but only a ts replacement as they do not carry any other replacements. Maybe should have gotten a Hitachi.
Sorry, for posting to the wrong area. Thanks for moving it for me.
As an update, I have a new MS28 drive on the way from the company I ordered it from. So when it gets here I will try with the new drive and see if anything different happens. Hopefully in the end I won't have to go out and buy a Hitachi and wasted the money on this one.
