I tried to register on the Xecuter forums to ask these questions but their registration is down due to server load apparently.
I think I'd like to get one but what is the reason behind having two drives other than it being more convenient to flash the exterior drive and not have to open the case every time a firmware update comes out?
I know there is no guarantee on what will or won't get you banned from live but is the idea that you use your external flashed drive for playing backups offline and you'll be safe(er) when playing original game discs with the interior nonflashed drive on live?
Also, since there is now dashboard updates that flash the dvd drive firmware? So when updating the console, switch to the interior drive, and your exterior CFW drive will be unaffected and still play correctly?
I've noticed talk of spoofing a drive into thinking its another drive, I'm not sure why you'd need to do this but that must mean the xbox knows what drive model it has inside of it, correct? So wouldn't it be a red flag if your xbox thinks it has one drive half the time and another the rest? Or do you have to spoof the external CFW drive into displaying it's the same type of drive as the interior drive? if so, how would I go about doing that? But wouldn't they still have different drive keys? isn't that unique to each drive or can that be spoofed too?
Lastly, it says that the xDRIVE can create backups, how is this accomplished, if the drive is connected to the xbox, how do you get the game rip onto your PC for burning? or do you have to hook the xDRIVE to your PC as you would for flashing?
I also need to get a new xbox. I wanted to get a 360 slim as every time I buy a refurb from gamestop it gets rrod within 6 months. but obviously the xDRIVE isn't compatible with the slim. is it even possible to play backups on the slim at all yet?
Here are your questions answered in order that they were asked.
yes.
yes.
yes. but i take the extra time to open up my 360 to disconnect the xdrive connections on the inside prior to accepting the update just to be extra safe. I only do this when it is an update that flashes the dvdfirmware and runs checks prior to the flashing. So far there has only been one update that does that.
yes. the CFW drive will play correctly after update. you also wait for the latest ixtreme LT+ firmware for the cfw drive and flash to it before you attempt to go on live with it if you do go on live using CFW drive.
yes.no. you spoof the drive with your original drive key so that it registers and works as if it is the internal stock drive.yes. there are tutorials for learning how to do the spoofing. look around you'll find 'em.
the drive can create backups if you write the 0800 ixtreme firmware for your drive to the external and connect it to your pc as you would to flash and then use a XBC program to make an iso of the game to the pc.
slims are a whole different ball game for the most part.
