Quickest / easiest way of telling whether a console is banned?

What is the quickest and easiest way to tell that a console is banned from xbox live?

The quickest way is to try to sign on, if it is banned, your screen will look like this




The 2nd option is to call them and give the serial number.

I dont actually have an xbox live account to sign in to though to be honest.

I have a number of xboxes to sell on, and i just need to know which ones (if any) are banned

go to MS website and try registering them. i dont believe you can register a banned console.

Well, another half assed way to try is to fire up the box with a HDD on it and try to install a game to the hard drive. When you pop the game in, I believe you press "Y" on the remote and it will give you a list of options, the last being, install game to hard drive.

yea but xval has been wrong. and if the box was banned before last fall, hard drive support will still be there.

Hmmm, so i cant rely on xval then?

And i cant rely on hard drive support either?

I thought you could register the console on their site then request a repair. If you get a error saying the page is unavailable the console is banned. If you get the normal warranty page then it's not banned.

I also recall if the URL ends in 54420 instead of the console's serial number, that also tells you it's banned.
