Tried to burn my first backup game and I'm receiving errors. I'm using Verbatim and they are made in Singapore. I made sure I change the Layer Break to 1913760. Should I just replace my burner? Any suggestions on what burner should i get? Here is the log.

Before replacing you burner you might want to flash it with newer firmware. A070 is kinda old. All there firmware for that drive is kinda old same as the drive. There are a couple newer versions at aopen site for the drive though.

I've never seen that error. It is interesting that it starts at the second layer of the DVD.

I am guessing that has something to do with it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I update the firmware to the newest one which was still old. Tried to burn a different game and got the same error message. I verified the iso using abgx360 and they all pass. Guess I have to buy a new burner. Any suggestions on which one should i get?

Liteon are good, but pretty much any burner capable of burning dvd+r work well.

Yeah i flash to the latest firmware. Same issue. I got CloneCD and it ran for 40 minutes and progress stayed at 0. I selected the DVD file to burn it. Was this correct? I have coasted now 4 dvds.

I don't have other DL DVD to try. I got a 20 pack from Newegg and have wasted 3 now on the new burner. Tried different games and same issue. Could the all of them be bad?

Every time I've seen the 'invalid address for write' error, it is a problem with the burner itself, not the media.

Try burning at a rate other than 2.4x. Choose 'Max' from ImgBurn. The 'always burn at 2.4' thing is a myth.

If that doesn't work, try another program to burn with, such as Clone CD.

Even though the error is probably with the burner, it is not the same error as before.

Hello everyone.

I get the exact same error as the topic-starter, though earlier in the burning process. Got a new DVD hardware - same issue. Tried both CloneCD and ImgBurn - same issue. The DVD model I use (LG) has been usefull for me for years. The media I use (Verbatim/Maxell) has been usefull in the past as well. I really wonder what might be causing this. The thing that bugs me is the one I bolded. I can't get the write speed I want. Why is that? I know my DVD writer CAN write on 2.4, used it at over 50 successful games in the past. I also know its possible, because if it wasn't, it won't be an option in ImgBurn at all.

This is really wierd, I have no clue whatsoever what might be causing it. Some software issues perhaps? Or the new wave of games? Really no idea so will be thankful if anyone comes with a solution or some useful thoughts on what to try.

Thanks in advance.

The 'always burn at 2.4x' thing is a myth. Your discs don't even support it. That is why it won't let you. As a matter of fact, the actual 'best practice' is to never burn at less than half of the maximum speed of the media, 8x, so that would be 4x as a minimum speed.

As I said in this thread previously, this error is almost ALWAYS caused by the burner itself.

This is especially true of laptop and external (laptop burner in a box) DVD writers.

You can try updating your firmware, as it may be out of date. (EDIT: Here is an updated firmware revision --> http://www.lge.com/us/support/product/su...ialTab=warranty )
You can also try burning at a more reasonable speed.

However, the drive is probably what is at fault here.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

When you put a disc into your drive and fire up ImgBurn it will tell you the supported burn speeds on the right hand side. It also says it in your log here: -

Quote:
I 15:15:35 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x)

Those are the only speeds that the drive can burn that media at. If you select an unsupported speed (2.4X in your case), it will just select the nearest supported speed, which is why it burned the disc at 4X. It's not anything to be concerned about.

I have a liteon drive (newer) and updated to the recent firmware. I have been using ritek (maxell) discs and have been having the same problem. I have a hard time beleiving that more than one person having the exact same problem but with different drives or different discs is a coincidence. I have tested in every software possible. Imgburn, dvd decrypter, nero, clonedvd, and even xbox backup creator. I have also burned at every possible speed, and received an entire 2 spindles of coasters with the exception of 3 working discs. One of my backups almost loads when burned at 8x, but fails and gives me a disc dirty or damaged error. At 2.4x or 4x or 1x there are tiny lines in the dl disc that are about 1 inch apart that are about 1mm in width in a circular pattern around the entire disc approximately 5 of them. I assume these lines are why the slow speeds are not reading on my xbox360, or why the programs are failing out. (What are these lines caused by, anyone know? The look like literal blank partitions on the disc) Although I have had at least one disc on every speed after several tries burn to 100 percent. Now, one game I backed up burned fine at 8x didn't fail and plays fine on my 360. Another game I burned at 6x plays fine too. Whilst another game burned fine at 4x and plays fine on my 360. These are all completely different titles. But burning them is like russian roulette ( I never know which speed is going to work for each game) and I can't be having to guess what speed to burn them at every time I burn a different game title or I'll be wasting alot of money. I bought another dvd+r dl burner today and am going to try verbatim discs once I can find some locally. But something tells me I'll prolly burn a bunch more coasters again. Surely there is something specifically at fault here that we all have in common, hopefully someone will figure it out, cause these dl discs are expensive and hard to come by in my hometown. If anybody has any new suggestions please let me know. Also I set the layer break manually too, so that can't be the problem either. And just for kicks I bought my second spindle of discs at a completely different store. Sorry that I can't post my img burn log, i was having this problem several days ago and wiped my hdd so the log is no longer there. But mine is similar to both of the previous posted logs depending on what speed and what game I was attempting to burn.

It's most likely those cheap disks you are using, try some verbatims, that should solve it.
