Recent update removes need for data migration cable?

It's more or less as said above. Am i correct in thinking that the new update that allows you to use USB flash memory with the 360 removes the need for a data migration cable and disk? I can just move it to the USB stick then switch hard drives and move it there then away I go?

I assume i'll require being logged in to play my arcade games as a result, but that doesn't bother me as i'm usually online anyway.

Also supposing i got a data cable, is the CD still required after the USB memory update or will it just read the USB connected hard drive now?
