Ok thinking about reflowing a RROD 360, got a heatgun and watched a fair few videos on how to do it, just wanted a quick recap of how its done?

1: Remove motherboard from the unit take of heatsinks.

2: Tape over where I dont want to heat basically everything but the GPU CPU ANA and Southbridge.

3: Allow time to heat with the gun at about 200 C for 5-10 minutes then leave to cool (time and temprature I'm not so sure of)

4: Then put it all back together, some guides say to use the x clamps again but I think I will use bolts instead, seen as its the clamps that allow the warping to happen in the first place.

5 All should now be working with the console?

Also anyone think that having heatsinks on the ANA and Southbridge would help prevent further RROD problems? Seen a few of them on the net but I'm not sure.

Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.

I still can't understand the logic some people have when it comes to the x clamps. Different people, teams, sites try getting technical when it comes to the x clamps being the problem.

The simple fact is that the x clamps have nothing at all to do with it. All those clamps do is hold the heatsinks in place until the board it placed in the tray. Once in there it's the bolts which go through the tray and in to the heatsink which does the clamping.

And as a matter of fact, when those clamps are in place they add a little upward pressure directly under the cpu/gpu, sandwiching the cpu/gpu between the mobo and heatsink. Once people do away with the clamps, there's nothing there to apply that direct pressure from underneath.

Again, the x clamps are not the problem. X clamps are used in many different type of electronics.

The problem is poor console design resulting in poor airflow. With a proper reflow and then addressing the airflow problem (new fans, case mod, etc.), those x clamps will work just perfectly.

The simple fact is most people will just apply "bandaids" instead of addressing the real problem and doing a little preventive maintence.

Oops, I was going on about the clamps and forgot to address your questions. Yes, your checklist looks good for a heatgun fix. Adding those extra heatsinks will not help.
