first off this is not a guide for repair/swap but a place to get one started.

ive been searching for hours and i am a newb when it comes to this stuff. i just today tore my 360 apart and cleaned my dvd drive's laser to get it to read games.witch i have to do every time i switch games but now thats got real old real fast and i guess just buying a new/replacement one and slaping it in isnt gonna happen.

every site/forum post says flash this do this with firmware and something about a PDL or something......wtf so far no in depth easy to follow how-to for dummies as far as swaping 360 dvd drives so with your help hopefully we can get one going.

or you can just post a link that gets me to a guide already made....witch i just cant seem to find! so we can skip all this...

what is the simplest way to get a brand new working perfectly dvd drive swapped into my 360?

i do not want any thing modded or messed with at all and i would like to stay away from flashing or any thing that i absolutely do not have to do!

so far all i can gather is buy an exact model and something about a key? and my 360 should work like it never broke....hopefully?

how do i know if the drive i buy is brand new, never used and working before i buy? and where is a good place to buy?
i really only shop amazon and newegg,tigerdirect.

thnx in advance for the help and i hope i can help others out there too that want a simple swap and not have to deal with M$.

k so after a a bit more searching it looks like the easiest thing to do is by the same model and just swap the PCB. now just how do i do that?

wait why dont i just replace the laser? that could be easier than swaping PCB's and the need to track down the exact FW.
