Hey, my xbox's DVD drive crapped out about eight months ago. Would just display "open try" after the "reading.." sequence. So there it sat for eight months. I was never a big gamer, xbox got used 10 minutes a week at the most.
Decided to donate to my nephew, spent a couple days trying to fix the problem, found suggestions of clearing cache, removing hard drive and putting it back on. Another was to open the xbox, and open the drive as someone said the lazer gets "stuck" so it can't read the disc. This was not the case.
So, fool heartily, I jumped on an auction site and bought the first xbox DVD drive I could come accross, thinking it was nothing much more then "plug-n-play".
The old one is a Hitachi GDR-3120L, the one I got to replace it with is a BenQ VAD6038, got it home and plugged it into the xbox snuck up to my nephews room to plug it in without him knowing and surprise him. Long story short I now get a white screen which simply displays "To run this disc insert into an xbox 360" in several languages.
Is the drive I bought knackered, or do I need to "flash" the drive? IF so could someone please point me in the right direction of a good tutorial which speaks to me like a complete idiot and assumes I know nothing?
Cheers for any replies, and I did a quick search through the forums, sorry if this same problem has been convered.
u need to spoof(flash) the drive.just search for how to on this site or google.since u have hitachi and benq all u need is jungle flasher program, and benq firmware(can get about anywhere)
Ya, you can't just buy a new drive and install it and call it done. You need to get the Drive key from the hitachi, and then you can spoof the BenQ (can't remember if you can spoof a BenQ as Hitachi though).
