Last year I had tried flashing my Lite-On DVD drive, but I accidently put the power cord in backwards, frying my drive.
Now, my co-worker tells me that I can replace this fried Lite-On drive with any brand drive I want. Is this true? Could I possibly replace my Lite-On drive with a BenQ or Hitachi?
Another note: I have no intentions of playing this 360 on Live. I just want this other 360 just for my back-ups.
Yes you can replace your drive. Only issue is you must have obtained the DVDkey before frying your drive. If you did that, you can spoof your DVDkey to a different drive.
If you did not get the DVDkey before frying the PCB board, you can JTAG the 360 to get the DVDkey. Only issue is that you have to have dash version 2.0.7371.0 to actually get the DVDkey.
It does have the avatars. What most people don't tell you is that 7371 is not a guarantee. You have to dump the nand to know for sure. If it has never been sent in for a repair it should be fine. If it came back from repair and has a 7371, most likely not, but you still have to dump the nand to confirm.

Alright thanks. I should be good then since I bought an Arcade version December 2008, had one update in January 2009, then fried it in early February 2009.
Thanks a lot to everyone that helped. I'm going to get another drive and just have my friend mod it for me!
