Figured i'd bring this thread back from the dead. Just wanted to update with pics of my new setup. It seems to work a lot better, haven't had a console i couldn't repair yet. Though i did toast a f750 motherboard because i was using the auto/program mode with the temp probes set way too high. Anyway here's some pics, sorry they were taken with my crackberry.
Reflowing a PS3 Board - top temp is top of board bottom temp is bottom of board
You can see the temperature probes and the mounting system
You can see how secure the ps3 board is. Took me a minute to figure out a mounting solution.
I used my normal reflow temps to fix the ps3 board.

I just got back into repairs myself. I didn't do anything over the winter except play BC2. But I was still collecting consoles. So recently I decided it was time to get back to work.
This time I'm doing reballing and not just reflowing.

That order was $379 but that included the $20 4141n nozzle with net and shipping.
I think if i were to add up everything in my setup it's about $900 or so. I don't think i'll be changing anything anytime soon.
I started a computer store in October so really the business account paid for it. The upgraded preheater has almost paid for itself already.
It's funny i'll get a computer in with weird issues and reflow the southbridge or gpu and it will seem to fix the crazy issues. The other day i got in a toshiba laptop that types "uuuuuuuuuuuu1ite" over and over, even if there's no keyboard. I reflowed the gpu and southbridge and did a 1hr long stress test and everything is back to normal.

The only difference I seen was the pro has the larger bottom heater. The pro still only covers up to a 65x65mm chip, same as the 6000. The bottom heater on the 6000 is more than sufficient for consoles. I don't really have any intentions of getting in to other electronics besides consoles so there really wasn't any sense in the pro and larger heater.

i just worked on the most ridiculous laptop i've ever seen. It's a intel core 2 quad core cpu, 4gb ddr2 ram and 2 graphic cards. The customer said he was experiencing problems with the card being reconized though the nvidia control panel.
So i reflowed them, here's some pictures.
The laptop was fully tested hitting about 190F max running a high def video for battlefield 3. Gotta love my job.

Yeah if i got into reballing i would still keep this setup for reflows. I have a friend that has a ir machine who does reflows but he says a good number of them are comming back. He doesn't use flux though. He actually went out and got the same setup that i had and said he's seeing more success and less returns. If i got into reballing i would do xbox and dv6000-9000 motherboards and would have to stock all the different things i would need to fix each device. Really that would be more of a pain than it's worth.

Yep, same here. Only used the Kester so far. I've always had luck so never felt like trying anything different.
Plus the smell.... ahhh. It's like back in grade school sniffing markers.
