Risk involved in spoofing drives?

I have Samsung and BENQ drives. How much risk is involved in swapping the firmwares on them? Do most people who do it get banned?

I have not herd of any one being banned just for spoofing drives with stock firmware, but I could be wrong. If you are going to be flashing with a custom firmware ex: (ix LT) then there is always a risk of being banned.
